A Transformative Step for Pakistan’s Automotive Industry
Hangzhou, China: In a groundbreaking development for Pakistan’s automotive sector, Geely Farizon, a global leader in New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), has entered into a strategic joint venture with HRL Engineering to establish the country’s first commercial NEV CKD (Completely Knocked Down) & CBU (Completely Built-Up) operation.
This partnership marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s transition towards sustainable and energy-efficient transportation, bringing world-class electric commercial vehicles to the local market while fostering technological advancement, industrial growth, and employment opportunities.
Revolutionizing Pakistan’s Commercial EV Market
The GEELY-HRL joint venture aims to introduce, assemble, and manufacture a complete range of electric commercial vehicles, including:
✔ NEV Buses
✔ Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs)
✔ Heavy-Duty Trucks (HDTs)
Initially, the project will import fully built-up units (CBUs), ensuring immediate availability of advanced electric commercial vehicles in Pakistan. In parallel, plans are underway to establish a state-of-the-art local assembly facility, enabling Completely Knocked Down (CKD) operations to enhance local production, job creation, and economic growth.
Strategic Vision: A Green & Sustainable Future
This initiative aligns with the Government of Pakistan’s vision for clean energy and electric mobility, reducing carbon emissions, fuel dependency, and transportation costs. The joint venture will serve as a catalyst for widespread adoption of NEVs in Pakistan’s commercial sector, supporting businesses, logistics, and public transport systems.
Chairman Zahid Rafiq of HRL Group emphasized that this partnership is a game-changer for Pakistan, paving the way for a cleaner, technologically advanced future. HRL’s seven-decade legacy in engineering and construction makes it a natural partner for Geely’s ambitious expansion into Pakistan.
Managing Director Jehanzaib Zahid highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration, stating that the venture is not just about vehicle production but about creating a sustainable ecosystem for commercial transportation. He emphasized that HRL Group’s expertise in infrastructure development will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of this project by developing the necessary facilities, supply chain, and charging infrastructure for electric commercial vehicles.
Mr. Imran Zahid, Executive Director of HRL-Capital Smart Motors, further elaborated on the company’s long-term commitment to integrating electric mobility with renewable energy solutions. He pointed out that the venture will contribute to Pakistan’s economic development, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, while ensuring that local businesses have access to cost-effective, eco-friendly transportation solutions.
Geely’s Global Dominance & Pakistan’s Growth Potential
Geely, ranked 185th on the 2024 Fortune Global 500 list, has consistently been a market leader in EV technology, generating $70.4 billion in revenue and securing a position among the world’s top 10 automakers.
In Q1 2024, Geely became the first Chinese automaker to enter the global top 10 in auto sales, delivering over 3.33 million units. Now, with its expansion into Pakistan’s commercial EV market, Geely aims to position Pakistan as a key hub for NEV manufacturing and exports in the region.
