Students in Punjab and other regions have resumed their classes as the government reopened educational institutions, despite the intensified winter. While school-going students brave the chilly weather, the government has implemented some changes to accommodate them.
To make the winter experience more bearable for students, school education officials have instructed both private and government schools in Punjab to relax their uniform policy. The interim government has permitted pupils to wear casual sweaters, blazers, coats, jackets, caps, socks, and shoes during the months of January and February to shield them from the harsh weather. This directive means that the uniform code will not be enforced in public and private schools during these winter months, aiming to ensure the comfort and well-being of the students.
Following this announcement, the regular classes for students in grade one and below have been temporarily halted for one week, and exams for grades 1-10 have been postponed. This decision was prompted by the unfortunate deaths of 36 children due to pneumonia in Punjab. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged for the vaccination of both children and the elderly against pneumonia.
The reopening of schools in the province occurred after winter vacations that started on December 18, 2023. In addition to changing uniform policies, the provincial government has also adjusted school timings, starting at 9:30 am from January 10 to January 22. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi further directed the postponement of all examinations originally scheduled for this month. These measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students during the winter season.
