“Shame on us!”:Voices of Celebrities Rise Against Church Vandalization in Jaranwala

The Jaranwala region of Faisalabad has been shaken by a recent wave of church vandalizations, leading to widespread outcry from celebrities and the global community. Allegations of blasphemy were the reported trigger for the acts of violence that have drawn strong condemnation.

In the Isa Nagri area of Jaranwala, a distressing incident unfolded where several churches were subjected to arson by an enraged mob on Wednesday. The Salvation Army Church, United Presbyterian Church, Allied Foundation Church, and Shehroonwala Church were among the targeted places of worship.

The roots of the mob’s anger were allegations of blasphemy linked to a local Christian family. These allegations, however, should not be a justification for violence and destruction, as stressed by prominent voices from Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

Taking to social media, well-known figures expressed their deep concern about the incident. Mahira Khan, using the platform formerly known as Twitter, wrote, “Shame on us!” Her words reflect the sentiments of many who are appalled by the turn of events.

Actress Sajjal Ali also raised her voice against the attacks, emphasizing unity among all citizens. “There is no place for violence in any religion,” she shared. “Such a shameful act! Absolutely heartbroken and disgusted. I strongly condemn this act of violence against minorities. Praying for unity and peace.”

Azekah Daniel, another prominent actress, condemned the act, reminding everyone that this was not the vision of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. She demanded respect for all places of worship, irrespective of the faith they represent. “I stand against these atrocities and unjust acts of violence!” she declared, demanding justice for all.

Nadia Jamil echoed the sentiments of her fellow celebrities, taking to social media to express her condemnation of the incident.

Shehzad Roy, a well-respected Pakistani singer-songwriter, activist, and humanitarian, responded to the incident by stating that the state must take strict action against those involved. He emphasized the need for accountability and justice to prevent the recurrence of such events in the future.

The repercussions of this incident have transcended national boundaries, igniting outrage across the international stage. Human rights organizations and religious leaders worldwide have spoken out against the attack and called for the protection of religious minorities.
