Rail traffic in Portugal is expected to face significant disruptions between Tuesday, May 30, and June 1, as a result of a strike called by several unions. The SFRCI, SINFA, and SNTSF unions have organized the strike, which is set to take place on Wednesday. The industrial action will have a lasting impact on rail traffic for two to three days after the strike, causing inconvenience to commuters and travelers across the country.
Implications of the Strike
According to reports from local media, the strike called by the SFRCI, SINFA, and SNTSF unions will severely disrupt railway circulation in all services during the period between 00:00 and 23:59 on May 31, 2023. However, the disturbance is expected to extend beyond the strike period, affecting rail travel on May 30 and June 1 as well. The strike is likely to cause delays, cancellations, and other inconveniences for passengers relying on train services during this time.
Customer Information and Assistance
To mitigate the impact of the strike on travelers, CP – Comboios de Portugal, the national railway company, has provided information and assistance to its customers. Passengers who already have tickets to travel on Intercidades, Alfa Pendular, InterRegional, and Regional trains during the strike period are eligible to request a refund for their ticket or exchange it for another train of the same category and travel class.
Customers can process these changes, including refunds and exchanges, through the myCP platform or at the ticket offices designated for online ticket purchases or the CP mobile application. However, it is important to note that these changes must be requested at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train from the customer’s originating station.

For customers who are unable to make immediate changes to their travel plans, CP offers the option to request a refund up to ten days after the end of the strike. To initiate the refund process, customers need to complete an online contact form titled “Refund for Delay or Cancellation” and provide a copy or scan of the original ticket.
