ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday extended the interim bail of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan till May 16 in two cases registered against him with Ramna and Secretariat police stations.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq released the written order of the yesterday hearing on the bail pleas of the PTI chief. The IHC CJ also issued show cause notices to IGP and other officials over contempt of court. The court also sought report from the government authorities by May 16.
Ramna Police Station and Secretariat Police station in Islamabad had booked Imran Khan in the cases, and he had arrived in the IHC to secure bail in these cases. However, as he reached there and went to the diary branch of the IHC and sat on chair for his biometrics he witnessed a large number of Rangers contingents smashing their way to reach him to take him into the custody. The Rangers personnel arrested him and took him away from there to Rawalpindi NAB headquarters.
The arrest of the PTI chief sparked countrywide protests as the thousands of party workers and supports took to the streets to express solidarity with their leader. They blocked the roads and chanted slogans against the government and demanded immediate release of Imran Khan. The latest reports said that a person was killed in Quetta during the protests while hundreds of others were arrested from various cities.
The PTI leaders said that the government launched the crackdown against the party leaders and workers after arrest of the party chairman.
The internet service was blocked, markets were closed and transportation also remained suspended which caused huge trouble to the public.
“This is highly condemnable,” said Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi, the PTI President while reacting to the police raids at the houses of the party workers and the supporters. He said that the peaceful protests were their right.
