Sushmita Sen, one of India’s most loved actresses and former Miss Universe, recently revealed that she almost missed out on the opportunity to participate in the 1994 Miss India beauty pageant due to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s presence. In an old video that has been circulating on social media, Sushmita shared that she had withdrawn her application after seeing Aishwarya Rai, but her mother encouraged her to compete.

The video, which was shared on Reddit, shows Sushmita revealing that she was not willing to compete against the extremely beautiful Aishwarya Rai. In fact, Sushmita’s mother had to convince her to participate. After reconsidering, Sushmita went back the next day and won the competition, making India proud.

During the interview, the 47-year-old actress also disclosed that 25 other girls had also stepped back from the competition because of Aishwarya Rai’s participation. Despite the competition, Sushmita emerged victorious and went on to represent India in the Miss Universe pageant, where she won the coveted title. Sushmita’s win in the 1994 Miss India beauty pageant was not an easy one. She had to compete against some of the most beautiful and talented women in the country and Aishwarya Rai. However, it was her poise, confidence, and intellect that made her stand out from the rest.

The final round of the competition was a tiebreaker round in which Sushmita was asked about her personal preferences in clothing and the textile heritage of India. To answer the questions, she gave credit to Mahatma Gandhi’s promotion of Khadi, which became the basis of India’s textile legacy. Her answers impressed the judges, and she was declared the winner of the competition.

After winning Miss India, Sushmita went on to participate in the Miss Universe pageant, which was held in Manila, Philippines. There, she competed against 77 other contestants from around the world. Once again, her intelligence, grace, and beauty helped her stand out from the rest. She became the first Indian to win the Miss Universe title, bringing immense pride to her country.

After winning the Miss Universe title, Sushmita Sen ventured into the world of acting. She made her debut in Bollywood with the movie “Dastak” in 1996, where she played the lead role. The movie was not a commercial success, but it helped establish Sushmita as a serious actor.
