ISLAMABAD: Sajid Hussain Turi, the Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource, said that approximately 850,000 workers were sent abroad over the last year for better employment opportunities.

The Minister for Expats mentioned that the government was also finalizing agreements with 16 to 18 countries for the export of manpower, and they are planning for the future to ensure the legal export of manpower.

Turi expressed these statements during an event at the National Press Club in Islamabad on Monday in connection with the World Labor Day.

The Minister stated that the government has taken several measures for the welfare of workers, including enhancing death compensation and planning to establish a university in Islamabad to provide free education to the children of workers.

The International Labour Day is observed across the country to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of the working class, as well as to create awareness about their rights and protect them from exploitation. The President and Prime Minister of Pakistan also paid tribute to the workers for their contribution and stressed upon the protection of their rights.

The Prime Minister said the government has also embarked upon programmes of vocational training and skills development to enable workers to get their due share in job markets within and outside the country.

In his message on the World Labour Day, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Pakistan’s prosperity is linked with the prosperity of workers. He said we will get representation for workers and farmers in the assemblies.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari said the PPP was a party of workers and it would continue to protect the rights of labourers.
