Imran Khan leads rally from Liberty chowk to Nasser Bagh today

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is leading a rally from Liberty Chowk to Nasser Bagh on foot on Monday (today) in a bit to press their demands for early elections in the country.

The PTI chairman said that these people [PDM leaders] were running away from the elections.

“The whole nation is standing by the Supreme Court even if these people are running away from the elections,” said the PTI Chairman, adding that those who were sitting on the country wanted to destroy the Constitution.

Imran Khan said that Shah Mahmood and Asad Umar would lead the rally starting from Rawalpindi, while officials from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Pervez Khattak, would lead the rally in Peshawar.

“I invite the entire nation to participate in all these three rallies,” said the PTI Chairman while extending invitation to the people.

Earlier, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhary said that the Election Commission of Pakistan stopped the political party from organizing a rally on Labour Day.

Fawad Chaudhary in a statement said that the electoral body stopped the PTI from holding a public rally on May 1 (Labour Day) which is a surprise move. He added that May 1 is globally observed as Labour Day to express solidarity with the labourers.

Later, the local administration allowed the PTI to take out the rally from Liberty Chowk to Nasser Bagh today. The local administration made the organizers bound to cooperate with the police and the officials concerned. It also said that the PTI would not hold welcoming desk on the roads and that there would be no trouble to the citizens.

Later that day, PTI been permitted by the district administration to stage a rally from Liberty Chowk to Nasir Bagh on May 1 (Labour Day).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore Rafia Haider issued the permission letter for the PTI rally after receiving undertaking from the party leaders in this regard.

The party would be taken out from 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
