Yaqoob Atif Bulbula, the famous Pakistani singer, passed away on Friday in Lahore. The singer, known for his song “Zindagi Paani Da Bulbula,” had been suffering from paralysis for the past two years.

Bulbula, who was commonly known as Bulbula Saheb, had been a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry for several decades. He appeared in a wide range of film and television roles, from peon to king. In PTV plays, he had roles in Waris, Andhera Ujala, and Aj Di Kahani. In films, he appeared in Pappu Lahoria and many more. In October 1979, Bulbula became the first-ever Punjabi rap singer with his debut song “Zindagi Paani Da Bulbula.” The song was later covered by singer Abrarul Haq for the 2013 film Zinda Bhaag.

Yaqoob Atif Bulbula’s talent was apparent from a young age. He was asked to lead the morning assembly at school by the headmaster and recited naats. He went on to become a successful singer, but despite his talent, he was well aware that he did not receive his due share of fame or fortune from the industry. The news of Bulbula’s death was shared by Pakistani actor Khaled Anam on Instagram, where he wrote, “Yakoob Atif Bulbula no more. May he rest in peace.” The funeral prayers for Bulbula were offered at Garhi Shahu.
