WhatsApp to Let Users Chat with People Without the App Using Guest Chat

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a groundbreaking feature that will let users chat with people who don’t even have the app installed, according to a recent report by WABetaInfo. The upcoming feature, dubbed “guest chat,” is currently under development and was spotted in beta version 2.25.22.13 for Android.

With guest chat, WhatsApp users will be able to initiate one-on-one conversations with non-users by sharing a unique link. When the recipient opens the link in a web browser, they can start chatting—no WhatsApp account or installation required.

This feature operates through a lightweight, web-based interface similar to WhatsApp Web, allowing seamless communication outside the app’s ecosystem. However, the guest chat experience will be limited—no photo sharing, videos, voice notes, or calling features will be supported. Group messaging is also not part of the initial rollout.

Despite these limitations, WhatsApp maintains its commitment to privacy, confirming that guest chats will still be protected by end-to-end encryption. This means that messages will remain private and accessible only to the sender and recipient.

The exact release date is still unknown, but broader beta testing is expected in the coming months before a global rollout.
