The United Kingdom (UK) has shared some big news about changes to its visa rules. Starting from January 31, 2024, people with tourist visas can do more things during their visit.
People with tourist visas can now do work-related activities. This includes working with clients and doing remote work while in the UK. The goal of these changes is to help both businesses and tourism in the country.
People with these visas can work with clients under certain conditions, like if their job involves working for a company with branches in both the UK and another country. The work should be important for a project or service by the UK branch of their employer. While visitors can work from the UK, their main reason for staying should not be remote work. Scientists, researchers, and academics can do research in the UK, except for academics applying for a 12-month visit visa or extending permission within the country. Lawyers can do extra activities like giving advice, being an expert witness, taking part in legal proceedings, and teaching. Speakers visiting on a visitor visa can now get paid for their talks.
The Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visitor route is merging with the Standard Visitor route. This means people doing paid engagements won’t need a separate visa, but they still need to plan the activity within 30 days of arriving.
