Three Covid-19 Variant Cases Reported in Peshawar

Health experts have suggested to follow specific guidelines for Covid-19 after finding nine positive cases of three different versions of the coronavirus in the last seven days in Peshawar.

These cases were identified at the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University in the past week. The health department has already requested relevant authorities to gather samples from suspected patients for testing.

The newly identified cases consist of five JN.1, three BA.2, and one XBB.1.6. They range in age from 22 to 72 years and include six females and three males, all from Peshawar.

Officials mentioned that it’s the first time three different strains of the coronavirus have been reported simultaneously in the province, so they’re initiating contact tracing of the positive cases.

Health workers are instructed to collect samples from suspected patients for testing. They also advise people to follow Covid-19 safety measures, such as washing hands frequently with soap, especially after being in public places, and wearing facemasks.

People with underlying health conditions like lung, heart, respiratory issues, or diabetes are urged to visit hospitals if they experience Covid-19 symptoms. Such individuals are more susceptible to infection than others.

At the community level, people should be informed about the current situation. Free Covid-19 tests are available at the Public Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL) at Khyber Medical University.
