Six more passengers tested positive for Covid-19 upon returning to Jinnah International Airport from Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by the provincial health department on Sunday.
Out of the six passengers, two were from Mingora, while the remaining four hailed from Ghotki, Rahim Yar Khan, Charsadda, and Jacobabad.
These individuals were selected for the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) due to flu-like symptoms. After the test, they were advised to self-quarantine and allowed to travel to their respective areas of residence.
Since January 5, a total of 15 international travelers, mostly arriving from Saudi Arabia, have tested positive for Covid-19 at Karachi airport. Detailed laboratory tests also confirmed the infection.
However, only two passengers tested positive for JN.1, a highly contagious variant of Covid-19 that is causing concern globally. The World Health Organization (WHO) categorizes it as a ‘variant of interest,’ having spread to over 40 countries.
In recent days, the Aga Khan University Hospital detected five cases of locally transmitted JN.1 variant, with three patients being women and no recent travel history
