Sindh Police Announces Special Unit to Combat Incidents Like May 9

In a significant development aimed at improving public safety and maintaining order during large gatherings and events, the authorities have granted approval to the Sindh police for the formation of an international-style Anti-Riot Force. This specialized force, known as the Crowd Management Unit (CMU), will replace the existing Sindh Reserve Force, consisting of 3,000 highly trained personnel.

Enhanced Public Safety Measures:

The introduction of the CMU marks a crucial step forward in bolstering the capacity of the Sindh police to effectively handle crowd control situations. The force structure will comprise four units, with a total of 2,000 personnel deployed in Karachi, while Sukkur and Hyderabad will each have 500 personnel assigned to their respective units. These units will be responsible for maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the public during large gatherings, protests, and events.

Leadership and Oversight:

To ensure efficient operations and adherence to international standards, a Grade-19 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) will be appointed to oversee the activities of the newly formed Crowd Management Unit. Additionally, four experienced police officers have been appointed as Superintendents of Police (SPs) to lead specific units. Mohammad Riaz will serve in Sukkur, Khalid Mustafa Korey in Hyderabad, Rana Arif in Qayyumabad, and Muhammad Ali Raza in Baldia.

Comprehensive Training Programs:

In line with international best practices, the Sindh Police has planned a series of training sessions led by internationally renowned trainers. These sessions will focus on critical areas such as crowd control techniques, crowd management strategies, and negotiation skills. By equipping the CMU personnel with advanced training, the Sindh police aims to enhance their capabilities in dealing with challenging crowd situations while prioritizing the safety and security of both the public and law enforcement officers.

Procurement of Anti-Riot Kits:

To ensure the readiness and preparedness of the Crowd Management Unit, the authorities have already procured anti-riot kits for all 3,000 members. These kits include essential equipment and protective gear that will enable the personnel to effectively respond to riot situations while minimizing risks.

Establishment of Dedicated Offices:

In addition to the formation of the CMU, the authorities have taken administrative measures to establish the office of the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) in Qayyumabad and the CMU Headquarters in Baldia Town, Karachi. These dedicated offices will serve as central hubs for coordination, planning, and resource management, further strengthening the operational capabilities of the newly formed force.

A Safer Future for Sindh:

The introduction of the international-style Anti-Riot Force in the form of the Crowd Management Unit heralds a new era for public safety and law enforcement in Sindh. With highly trained personnel, advanced equipment, and a focus on professional development through international training programs, the Sindh Police is committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens during gatherings and events. The establishment of the CMU is a proactive step toward maintaining peace and order, and it is expected to play a vital role in upholding the rule of law while fostering a secure environment for all residents of Sindh.
