Sindh, one of the provinces in Pakistan, is set to launch a new smartphone app for its Peoples Bus Service (PBS) on June 22. This initiative was announced by the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, during a transport department meeting. The app aims to enhance the overall public transportation experience for citizens by incorporating advanced features and technology.
Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Integration
During the meeting, Minister Memon received a comprehensive briefing on various aspects of the PBS, including new routes, the implementation of an intelligent transport system (ITS), and the establishment of a command and control room. Under the ITS, the buses will be equipped with several modern amenities such as CCTV cameras, audio systems, USB connections, Wi-Fi, and driver alarms.
The ITS will also play a crucial role in enhancing the monitoring and management of the bus service. It will activate CCTV cameras and screens for live tracking and monitoring purposes. This integration will allow authorities to ensure the safety and security of passengers while providing real-time information about the location and status of the buses.
Real-Time Tracking and Online Payments
One of the key features of the newly launched PBS smartphone app is the ability for citizens to track the buses in real-time. This feature will enable passengers to plan their journeys more effectively by having accurate information about the bus’s location and estimated arrival time. Additionally, the app will facilitate online payments, making it more convenient for commuters to pay their fares without the need for physical cash transactions.
Expansion Plans and Electric Buses
The Sindh government has outlined plans to expand the reach of the Peoples Bus Service to connect rural areas such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas with the metropolitan regions. This move is aimed at easing travel for citizens residing in these areas and providing them with better access to urban centers and essential services.
Furthermore, the government has expressed its commitment to promoting sustainable transportation by incorporating electric buses into the PBS fleet. As part of this initiative, 20 green buses will join the service in Karachi by August 20. This step not only aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions but also showcases the government’s dedication to providing environmentally friendly transportation options.
Enhancing the Public Transportation Experience
With the launch of the PBS smartphone app, the Sindh government aims to revolutionize the public transportation experience for its citizens. The app will provide users with general information about routes, schedules, and fees, empowering them to plan their trips efficiently. By leveraging technology and incorporating advanced features, the government seeks to make public transportation more accessible, convenient, and user-friendly.
