Renowned Pakistani filmmaker and Oscar winner, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, is set to captivate audiences once again with her latest documentary series titled “Champions of Climate Change: Voices for a Greener Pakistan.” This compelling four-part film series shines a spotlight on the pressing issue of climate change, showcasing stories of resilience, innovation, and impact.

Aligned with the global initiative of Show Your Stripes Day on June 21st, the release of this documentary series aims to raise awareness about the urgency of addressing climate change and the importance of collective action. Through powerful storytelling, Chinoy amplifies the voices of courageous individuals who are taking on the monumental task of combating climate change in Pakistan.

Each film within the series delves into a specific aspect of climate change and environmental conservation, providing a comprehensive exploration of the challenges and solutions at hand. Viewers will be introduced to four remarkable individuals who are making a significant difference in their respective regions of Pakistan: Usman Iqbal from Karachi, Sindh; Wajiha Siddiqui Mehdi from Jacobabad, Sindh; Hatim Baloch from Panjgur, Balochistan; and Yahya Musakhel from Zhob, Balochistan.

The first set, “Hamara Rishta Samandar Se” (Our Bond with the Sea), highlights the crucial role that oceans and coastal communities play in the fight against climate change. It sheds light on the efforts of Usman Iqbal, who is working tirelessly to protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainable fishing practices in Karachi.

In “Hangami Halaat” (A State of Emergency), the second set, Wajiha Siddiqui Mehdi shares her experiences and initiatives to address the environmental challenges faced by Jacobabad, a region susceptible to extreme weather events. Her work focuses on building resilience within the community and implementing strategies to mitigate the impact of climate-related disasters.

The third set, “Aik Sath Mil Ke Ba Ikhtiyar” (Together We Have Power), showcases the inspiring story of Hatim Baloch, who has mobilized his community in Panjgur, Balochistan, to adopt renewable energy solutions. Through collective action and the power of unity, Hatim demonstrates how even small steps can lead to a significant change in combating climate change.
