Shahid Afridi Surprised Over Babar Azam’s Selection as Captain

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has given his opinion on Babar Azam becoming the new captain for the shorter formats of cricket. In his statement, Afridi said that Mohammad Rizwan would have been a better choice if a change was necessary. He also criticized the decision of the selection committee. However, Afridi expressed his support for Babar Azam and wished him the best.

Babar Azam, who is 29 years old, has been chosen as the captain again, replacing Shaheen Afridi. Shaheen Afridi had only led the team in one T20I series against New Zealand in January 2023. Unfortunately, Pakistan lost that series 1-4, which made some people doubt Shaheen Afridi’s leadership skills.

The PCB announced Babar Azam’s appointment as the white-ball captain through a post on social media. The decision came after a recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee and approval from Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi.

Babar Azam met with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to discuss plans for the upcoming T20 World Cup. After the meeting, Babar Azam was given the responsibility of leading the team. It’s important to note that Babar Azam has previously captained Pakistan in five international tournaments.
