Sehwag Criticizes Babar Azam After Pakistan’s Early Exit from T20 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag criticized Pakistan captain Babar Azam after Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Babar Azam had a disappointing tournament, scoring only 122 runs at a strike rate of 101.66. His highest score was 44 runs in a match Pakistan lost to the United States. Reflecting on Pakistan’s performance, Sehwag said, “If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decides to replace Babar Azam as the captain for white-ball cricket, then he should not be chosen to play in T20 matches.”

Sehwag explained his opinion, saying, “As a leader, you need to think about what’s best for the team. If Babar can’t make a significant contribution, he should step down and allow someone who can play aggressively during the powerplay overs to take charge. It might sound tough, but if there’s a change in captaincy, Babar shouldn’t be in the T20 squad. His performances haven’t met the requirements of today’s T20 cricket.”
