Classes will start again in schools tomorrow.
LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has announced that classes in government schools across the province will resume as usual from Saturday, following the closure of educational institutions for two days due to violent protests that erupted after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
The decision was taken after the situation in the province became more stable, following the deaths of four people and numerous injuries resulting from the violent demonstrations. The closure of schools had been announced on May 10 by the Punjab School Education Department and the Higher Education Department.
The Secondary School First Annual exam, 2023, which was scheduled for May 11 and May 12, was also postponed.
In contrast, Sindh continued with the scheduled examinations and warned schools against closure. The government threatened to take action against any educational institutions found to be shut.
The Punjab School Education Department’s decision to resume classes in government schools across the province is a much-needed relief for students and parents. The recent violent protests in the province, which were sparked by the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, had disrupted the educational activities, leading to the closure of educational institutions for two days.

The violence had claimed the lives of four people and injured numerous others, and the authorities were forced to shut down schools to ensure the safety of students and teachers. However, with the situation now under control, the decision to resume classes is a positive step towards restoring normalcy in the education sector.
It is essential to note that disruptions in education can have a significant impact on students’ academic performance and mental health.
In this regard, the Punjab goverment should continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary steps to prevent any further disruption in the education sector. It is also crucial that the authorities hold accountable those responsible for the recent violence and vandalism, to deter future incidents.
Overall, the resumption of classes in government schools is a positive development, and it is hoped that the education sector in Punjab can continue to operate without any further interruptions.
