Punjab CM orders to end police blockade outside Zaman Park

Punjab CM issues an order to remove the police roadblock outside Zaman Park

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi has ordered the removal of the police blockade outside Zaman Park. This decision came during a meeting between Naqvi and the government’s negotiating team, which was seeking permission from Imran Khan to conduct a search operation in Zaman Park and apprehend troublemakers.

Naqvi reiterated the need for the Zaman Park administration to fulfill its promise and remove encroachments. The government team included Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa, DC Lahore Rafia Haider, DIG, and other officials. Imran Khan’s legal team was also present at the meeting.

However, Imran Khan refused to allow the police and administration to conduct a search operation at his residence, imposing certain conditions. In response, Imran Khan’s security in-charge, Iftikhar Ghamman, assured the media that they were willing to cooperate with the search operation but stressed the requirement for a court order to initiate the process.

Ghamman revealed that the government team informed them of their intention to return with a search warrant. They acknowledged the presence of troublemakers in Zaman Park. Upon arriving at Imran Khan’s house, the team was promptly granted access. Ghamman expressed his belief that they would find nothing incriminating, as they only discovered water and biscuits during the search. He encouraged the media to inquire about the actual findings.

Earlier, the Punjab government had requested Imran Khan to hand over his supporters who were allegedly involved in the attacks. Imran Khan denied harboring any individuals connected to the violence, asserting that authorities could search his home only with a court warrant.

On Thursday, journalists were allowed limited access to certain areas of Imran Khan’s home to search for potential terrorists.
