PESHAWAR, Jun 03: The Capital City Police in Peshawar achieved significant success in maintaining law and order by apprehending a total of 1,557 suspects during 289 search and strike operations conducted in the provincial metropolis throughout May 2023. The monthly performance report, released on Saturday by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Syed Ashfaq Noor, highlighted the remarkable achievements made by the police force.
Busting Criminal Gangs and Recovering Stolen Goods:
The Peshawar Police managed to dismantle 16 criminal gangs, leading to the recovery of stolen goods worth millions of rupees. Among the recovered items were 231 smartphones, three-tola gold ornaments, seven vehicles, and 26 motorcycles. These successful operations not only ensured justice for the victims but also delivered a significant blow to organized criminal networks operating within the city.
Crackdown on Drug Trafficking:
As part of their commitment to combating drug-related crimes, the police stations in Peshawar conducted effective search and strike operations, snap checking, night patrolling, blockades, and comprehensive operations. These efforts resulted in the apprehension of 800 suspects involved in drug trafficking. The police seized a substantial amount of illegal weapons and narcotics during these arrests, further contributing to the crackdown on organized crime.
Seizure of Illegal Weapons and Narcotics:
The seized contraband included an array of dangerous weapons and a significant quantity of narcotics. The police confiscated 13 hand-grenades, 57 Kalashnikovs, six Kalakovs, 36 shotguns, 180 rifles, 718 pistols, and over 18,000 cartridges of various bores. These actions served to neutralize potential threats posed by armed criminals and ensure the safety and security of the local population.
In addition to the weapons, a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered by the police. The seized drugs included 29 kilograms of ice, 14 kilograms of heroin, 54 kilograms of opium, and 300 kilograms of hashish. This successful operation signifies a major blow to the drug trade in Peshawar, safeguarding the community from the detrimental effects of drug abuse.
