Pakistani Government Announces Holidays for Eid ul Adha 2023

Dates and Official Holidays:

In a recent announcement, the federal government has declared a three-day public holiday period for the observance of Eid al-Adha. As per the government notification, the holidays will commence from June 29th and conclude on July 1st. This decision was made after the sighting of the Zilhajj moon on Monday, confirming that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated nationwide on July 29th.

Return to Work for Government Employees:

Following the Eid al-Adha holidays, government employees are expected to resume work on Monday, July 3rd. This means that they will enjoy a four-day break, including Sunday. The decision to grant the holidays aligns with the Cabinet Division’s Circular No. 10-02/2022-Min-II, issued on December 23, 2022, and approved by the Prime Minister.

Hajj Pilgrimage Details:

This year, the Hajj pilgrimage will take place on June 27th. Over 1.7 million Muslims, including more than 300,000 from Pakistan, will participate in this sacred journey, fulfilling their religious obligation. Pilgrims from various parts of the world will gather to perform the rituals of Hajj.

Holiday Schedule for Different Workweeks:

The official holidays for Eid al-Adha will vary based on the working week of different offices. For those with a five-day working week, the holidays will be observed on June 29th and 30th, 2023 (Thursday and Friday). Meanwhile, offices with a six-day working week will enjoy an extended break from June 29th to July 1st, 2023 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

Announcement by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee:

The announcement of Eid al-Adha being celebrated on June 29th was made by the Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad. In his statement on Monday evening, he confirmed the sighting of the Crescent of Zil Hajj 1444 AH, thus marking the beginning of the Eid al-Adha festivities.
