Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team Creates History with a Double Victory Against New Zealand

Pakistan had a big win against New Zealand in the first T20I, and they kept up the momentum in the second game in Dunedin. Fatima Sana played a crucial role by taking three wickets for the second time in a row, leading Pakistan to win the series. This 10-run victory was significant—it was Pakistan’s first T20I series win away from home since October 2018 and their first outside Asia and Ireland.

Before December 2023, New Zealand women had an unbeaten record of 8-0 against Pakistan women in T20Is. However, the Pakistani team turned things around in two consecutive games. In the first match, they won by 7 wickets at the same venue. Following that, they outperformed their opponents once again, winning the second game by 10 runs and securing a decisive 2-0 lead.

In the second game, Pakistan restricted the hosts to 127/7 after setting a target of 137/6. Aalia Riaz scored 32 off 22 balls, including one shot over the boundary and three strokes to the fence. Muneeba Ali, the opener, contributed 35 runs.

New Zealand faced a challenge during their innings and was once at 89/6, thanks to the bowling by the Pakistanis. However, Georgia Pimmer and Hamma Rowe fought back, trying to bring the hosts back into the game. Despite their efforts, they fell short by 10 runs as Fatima Sana successfully defended 17 runs in the last over.

Fatima Sana played a key role in this victory, taking 3 wickets, while Sadia Iqbal sent 2 players back to the pavilion. The Girls in Green celebrated their back-to-back wins, marking a historic series triumph away from home.
