Over 50,000 Homes Damaged in Lebanon as Israeli Strikes Continue Despite Ceasefire

Israeli military operations in Lebanon have caused widespread destruction to residential areas, with more than 50,000 housing units either damaged or destroyed during the latest conflict with Hezbollah, according to official estimates.

Speaking to AFP, Chadi Abdallah, head of the National Council for Scientific Research, said that within approximately 45 days of the war, 17,756 homes were completely destroyed, while 32,668 sustained damage.

The conflict has also taken a severe human toll. Israeli attacks have reportedly killed more than 2,400 people and displaced over one million residents since fighting intensified in early March, when Hezbollah became actively involved in the broader regional conflict.

Although a 10-day ceasefire came into effect last Friday, Lebanese authorities say destruction has continued in southern areas still under Israeli control. A Lebanese official indicated that the government plans to request an extension of the ceasefire during upcoming talks with Israel.

Despite temporary pauses in fighting, the situation remains volatile, with both sides maintaining positions along the border. As diplomatic efforts continue, the scale of destruction underscores the urgent need for a lasting resolution to prevent further humanitarian and infrastructural losses.
