The procedure for submitting nomination papers to participate in the 2024 general elections has officially started as of Wednesday. According to the ECP schedule, candidates can obtain and submit their nomination papers until 4:30 pm on December 22. The initial list of candidates will be disclosed on December 23, and the examination of nomination papers is scheduled from December 24 to December 30.
Following the schedule, electoral symbols will be assigned to candidates on January 13, and the general elections are set to take place on February 8. The ECP has issued guidelines for candidates to submit their nomination papers, allowing submissions from December 20 to 22. The nomination paper fee is fixed at Rs. 100.
Candidates can submit a maximum of five nomination, each with a different supporter. The National Assembly seat candidate fee is Rs. 30,000 (non-refundable), while the Provincial Assembly seat candidate fee is Rs. 20,000 (non-refundable). Candidates are required to attach income tax return documents from the last three years with their nomination papers.
The basic qualification for a candidate is to be a citizen of Pakistan and not less than 25 years of age. According to the ECP, contestants for National Assembly seats must be voters of any place in Pakistan.
In addition, the commission has set particular requirements for women running for NA reserved seats, including the requirement that they be registered voters in the province in question.
