NAB summons Imran Khan on May 18 in Al-Qadir Trust case

Imran Khan will be summoned by NAB on May 18 in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi chapter of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued summons on Tuesday to Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and former prime minister, requesting his appearance before the anti-graft watchdog’s investigation team in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust case. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously directed Imran Khan to cooperate with the investigation and warned that his bail could be revoked if he failed to do so.

The NAB has launched a formal investigation into the corruption case involving the Al-Qadir Trust and Imran Khan. As part of this investigation, the NAB’s team has provided him with a questionnaire to complete and has also conducted an interrogation session. The allegations against Imran Khan stem from his time as Prime Minister, specifically relating to corruption within the Al-Qadir Trust. The Islamabad High Court has deemed the Bureau’s arrest of Imran Khan in connection with this case as legally justified.

In response to a plea for release, the Supreme Court declared the arrest of the former premier from the IHC premises in the Al-Qadir Trust case as illegal and ordered his release. Notably, Imran Khan was apprehended by the NAB with the assistance of Rangers while he was attending various cases at the Islamabad High Court.

The Al-Qadir Trust case revolves around the land allotment for the Al Qadir University, in which real estate tycoon Malik Riaz provided his statement to the National Accountability Bureau. Former ministers of Imran Khan’s cabinet, including Zulifiqar Bukhari, the former federal overseas minister, and Shehzad Akbar, the former advisor on accountability, are also implicated in the case. The allegations state that the land was allotted to the Al Qadir Trust University in exchange for facilitating the return of £190 million (Rs70 billion) seized in the UK to Malik Riaz in Pakistan.
