NA approves resolution urging PM, cabinet members not to obey SC election verdict

Islamabad: The National Assembly on Thursday approved  a resolution against the Supreme Court three-member bench regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

The house through the resolution moved by Khalid Magsi also made the prime minister and the cabinet bound not to implement the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The house also rejected the SC three-member bench’s decision and termed it unnecessary interference. The resolution expressed serious concerns over the verdict and said that it was tantamount to re-writing the Constitution.

Mohsin Laghari, however, opposed the resolution and asked the speaker not to accept such resolution, saying that it was equal to exerting pressure on the Supreme Court.

“Are we backing this confrontation between the state institutions,” he added.

JUI- F leader Asad Masood, the son of Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, said they strongly rejected the decision of the SC three-member bench. He said they were not made party in the case. He said that the role of the Prime Minister, Election Commission and the Parliament was exercised by the judges of the top court.

The house held that it rejected the SC three-member bench’s decision as well as the unnecessary interference. The House expressed serious concerns over rewriting of the Constitution through the verdict. It also demanded the Supreme Court to form a full court for hearing of the election case.

The resolution said that the elections should be held at the same time across the country, saying that the verdict of the three-member bench was a minority decision which could not be imposed on the majority.

Maulana said that they removed some people from their party and they joined Imran Khan.

He said that a propaganda was done few days ago that the incumbent coalition government

“We are not ready to give our powers to the supreme court. WE are not ready to give PM’s power to the Supreme Court. And this decision which came from the Supreme court judges is also contempt of court. A contempt petition should be filed against them. They mixed the cases. There is no space for “jabbar”.  If you continue to do so the JUI-F will be standing there,”.

He said that they took oath to protect the Constitution.

He went on to say that on one side, the decisions were coming and on the other side, offers were being made to hold dialogue.

“If you want dialogue then the previous decisions will be reversed,” said Maulana said, adding that nobody could force any for the talks.

“You can impose contempt of court on the house but we will not allow this agent of Ahmadies to take control of the power corridors,” said the JUI-F, adding that they were fighting for the parliament.

He asked the NA speaker to play his due role regarding protection of the rights of the lawmakers. He stated that this dispute would go for a long time and they were ready to fight it.

“General Bajwa imposed this person and now he is lashing out at him that he ousted him. Today, they observe Yaum-e-Tashakur. Mian Saqib Nisar also delivered some verdicts and he said he called him “half-honest”,” said Maulana Asad Mahmood.

The JUI-F said that favorite decisions were being made in the top court. He also prayed for the parliamentarians for their long struggle.

“He [Imran Khan] violated the Constitution and he must be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution,” said Asad Mahmood.
