On Wednesday, London Mayor Sadiq Khan reaffirmed the city’s dedication to fighting racism, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism. In response to recent anti-Muslim riots and increased concerns for safety among minority communities, Khan announced an expansion of security training at mosques across London.
The new plan includes funding for four additional security training sessions at mosques. This initiative aims to support faith leaders, enhance community cohesion, and address the rise in hate crimes observed recently. “London has shown that we stand together against all forms of hate,” “Our goal is to ensure every Londoner feels safe in their community. Hate has no place in our city.” Mayor Khan stated.
The mayor is collaborating with the Metropolitan Police, local partners, and community leaders to enhance safety. The government has also restarted its mosque security scheme to offer immediate support for places of worship facing threats.
This new measure complements the Protective Security for Mosques Scheme, which has provided up to £29.4 million for upgrading security at mosques and Muslim faith schools.
During his visit to Al Manaar, the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in West London, Mayor Khan reassured mosque leaders. The initial security training session, conducted by Faith Associates, took place at Al Manaar and included practical advice on safeguarding congregations and facilities. Topics covered included protective security, hate crime, and online safety, with the Metropolitan Police also contributing their expertise.

Mayor Khan emphasized the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures, saying, “We must remain alert and united to ensure the safety of our communities, especially during these trying times.”
