The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that mobile services in certain areas of Karachi will remain partially suspended until the 10th day of Muharram, which falls on July 29th.
This decision has been taken based on instructions from the Ministry of Interior. The suspension of mobile services has caused concern among consumers who report disruptions in some areas at various times, with some experiencing complete shutdowns.
The affected areas include Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Jaffer e Tayar Society, Malir 15, Future Colony, Dawood Chowrangi, and Haji Zakaria Goth. Additionally, services are partially suspended in Shah Latif Town, Bhitaiabad, Memon Goth Main Market, Bin Qasim Town, and other locations.
The federal government has declared public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (July 28th and 29th) in observance of Ashura. Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, holds significant religious importance for Muslims.
In anticipation of the Ashura days’ activities, the Sindh government has already imposed several measures, including a ban on pillion riding on Muharram 9th and 10th under Section 144 of the CrPC.
Furthermore, to ensure security during the holy month of Muharram, the federal government has approved the deployment of armed forces across the country.

It’s worth noting that the Islamic year 1445 AH will commence this evening (July 20th) with the beginning of Muharram. This means that Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on July 29th (Saturday).
As the authorities take these precautionary measures, it is essential for the public to cooperate and abide by the regulations to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of Muharram.
