JF-17 Thunder Block-III to Dazzle at UK’s RIAT 2025 Airshow

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is set to take center stage at one of the world’s most prestigious aviation events — the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025 — as it proudly showcases its most advanced fighter jet, the JF-17 Thunder Block-III. The event, taking place from July 18 to 20 at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, will host air forces from across the globe. PAF’s participation with its JF-17 Block-III and C-130 Hercules transport aircraft is a bold representation of Pakistan’s growing aerospace innovation and operational prowess.

The JF-17 Thunder Block-III at RIAT 2025 is more than just an airshow appearance — it is a statement of strategic capability and national pride. The aircraft, equipped with an advanced EASA radar system, long-range Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles, and enhanced avionics, is classified as a 4.5-generation multi-role combat jet. Its versatility allows it to carry out precision strike missions, air superiority roles, and deep penetration operations, placing it firmly among top-tier global fighters.

Adding an impressive layer to this deployment is the successful mid-air refuelling operation conducted en route to the UK. The JF-17s received fuel from a PAF IL-78 aerial tanker, highlighting the Air Force’s ability to project power far beyond national borders. This maneuver not only demonstrated technical precision but also reflected the operational readiness and coordination of both air and ground crews.

This year’s participation comes at a time when PAF has been gaining renewed global attention. In May, the Kamra-based 15 Squadron downed five Indian jets during a high-stakes air engagement, which many now consider the largest in South Asia in more than 50 years. The combat performance of the JF-17 Thunder Block-III in that conflict has intensified international interest, especially from defence observers and aerospace analysts attending RIAT.

The enthusiasm across the UK for PAF’s presence is tangible. With recent tensions between Pakistan and India placing the region in the global spotlight, the arrival of these battle-tested jets is being hailed as a headline feature of the airshow. Their combat-proven record and cutting-edge technology make them a key attraction for visitors, military delegations, and defence manufacturers alike.

As the PAF jets prepare to take flight over UK skies, they not only represent airpower, but also signal Pakistan’s indigenous defence capabilities and its firm presence in the global aerospace arena.
