Imran Khan’s life is in danger: Bushra Bibi Raises Concern in Court

Bushra Bibi, the spouse of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has expressed serious concerns about her husband’s safety. She submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court on Friday, claiming that Imran Khan’s life is at risk during his imprisonment at Attock jail. This assertion comes as Imran Khan serves a three-year sentence following his conviction in the Toshakhana case earlier this month.

The affidavit, presented to the apex court through advocate Hamid Khan, is in connection with a case related to the trial of civilians in military courts. Bushra Bibi’s submission has drawn attention to the conditions Imran Khan is currently facing and has sparked discussions about the adequacy of his security and living arrangements.

Former Prime Minister Khan was incarcerated in August following his sentencing in the Toshakhana case. This case revolves around the alleged mishandling of state gifts received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2022. The court’s ruling not only led to his imprisonment but also imposed a five-year political ban on him.

Bushra Bibi’s affidavit sheds light on the challenges she faced in securing a meeting with her husband at Attock jail. She stated that during their meeting on August 22, she noticed that Imran Khan’s arm muscles had significantly weakened, which she deemed as a life-threatening concern given his age of 70.

The former first lady also brought up the issue of security, mentioning that she had previously voiced concerns about potential poisoning threats to her incarcerated husband. In a letter addressed to the Punjab home secretary on August 18, Bushra Bibi requested the authorities to transfer Imran Khan to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi as directed by the court. She emphasized that his status as an Oxford graduate and a former captain of the national cricket team warranted certain facilities that were not available at Attock jail.

Bushra Bibi further highlighted that there had been two assassination attempts on Imran Khan’s life in the past, with the culprits still at large. She stressed the urgency of the situation and conveyed her fear that her husband might face poisoning risks in his current confinement.

Additionally, she requested that, considering his former position as the Prime Minister, Imran Khan should be allowed to consume home-cooked food during his imprisonment.

The submission of this affidavit has sparked renewed discussions about the safety and well-being of Imran Khan during his incarceration. As the legal proceedings continue, the Supreme Court will likely address the concerns raised by Bushra Bibi and evaluate the conditions under which the former Prime Minister is being held.
