Female Doctor and Six Others Arrested for Kidney Trafficking in India

Indian police have arrested a female doctor for allegedly removing and selling kidneys from poor people. Indian media reports that six other people involved in this illegal activity were also arrested.

Police say the international kidney transplant racket operates from New Delhi to Bangladesh, and the 50-year-old doctor is from Chennai. Along with the doctor, three of her associates, including a translator, were arrested. Three Bangladeshi nationals who helped bring kidney patients and donors from Bangladesh to India were also detained.

The police report reveals that the female doctor has performed between 15 to 16 kidney transplants as part of this illegal network. The gang’s method involved targeting poor people in Bangladesh, promising them money and jobs in India. Once in India, their kidneys were removed without proper medical authorization. Authorities say these illegal activities have been going on since 2019.
