Donald Trump says the US will extend the ceasefire with Iran, at the request of Pakistan

US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, while confirming that the naval blockade on Iranian ports will remain in place, highlighting a complex and uncertain phase in ongoing tensions.

In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed a request from Pakistan’s leadership, including Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif, to allow more time for diplomatic engagement.

Trump stated that US military operations against Iran would be paused until Tehran presents a “unified proposal” for negotiations. However, he did not provide any specific timeline for how long the ceasefire would last, effectively removing immediate pressure while keeping strategic flexibility.

“I have directed our Military to continue the Blockade and… remain ready and able,” Trump said, indicating that while active hostilities are paused, the US remains prepared for escalation if talks fail.

The US president also expressed uncertainty over Iran’s internal political dynamics, suggesting that decision-making within Tehran remains unclear. Trump said his longstanding claim that Iran’s leadership has been significantly weakened, making it difficult to determine who is driving negotiations.

Despite the ceasefire extension, the continued US blockade of Iranian ports remains a critical point of tension. Tehran has repeatedly described the blockade as an act of war, and it is expected to be a major obstacle in any future negotiations.

As both sides weigh their next moves, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the region moves toward dialogue—or slips back toward confrontation.
