Caretaker PM Assures Protection of Minorities in Pakistan

Islamabad, August 18, 2023 — In a resolute declaration, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar underscored his commitment to safeguarding the rights of minorities in Pakistan and upholding the rule of law. During the inaugural meeting of the caretaker federal cabinet on Friday, he emphasized the importance of unity among diverse ethnicities and religions within the nation.

Expressing deep concern over the recent Jaranwala incident, the Prime Minister rebuked extreme attitudes that foster division. He firmly stated that such behaviors would not be tolerated and would be met with decisive action. Whether rooted in religious fervor or secular ideologies, rigidity will not be allowed to sow anarchy or turmoil in the country.

Elaborating on the caretaker government’s priorities, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar acknowledged the prevailing polarization within the nation. He pledged to differentiate between politics and legal matters, aiming to establish a strong basis for the continuation of Pakistan’s national and international commitments.

Moreover, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s intent to collaborate closely with all state institutions, emphasizing unity in working towards development projects. Of particular note was the Special Investment Facilitation Council, designed to unlock the potential of Pakistan’s abundant natural resources.

Referring to the events of May 9, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar issued a strong condemnation of the attacks on state buildings, national symbols, and monuments commemorating war heroes. He assured the public that justice would be pursued rigorously and that those responsible for the attacks would be held accountable according to the law.
