Biden Mistakenly Calls Zelenskyy ‘President Putin’, Ukraine Leader’s Reaction Goes Viral

Joe Biden mistakenly introduced Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy as “President Putin” during a NATO summit in Washington. This slip-up raised more concerns about Biden’s mental sharpness, which could impact his presidential campaign.

Biden made the error while standing with NATO leaders during a signing ceremony with Zelenskiy on the last day of the summit. It happened an hour before a crucial press conference for Biden’s campaign, as many of his political allies and donors are urging him to drop out of the race.

After wrapping up his opening remarks, Biden said, “Now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination.” Then, he mistakenly introduced Zelenskiy as “President Putin.”

European leaders reacted with confusion and hesitant applause. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were surprised, while other leaders clapped awkwardly. Realizing his mistake, Biden corrected himself, saying, “President Putin! We’re going to beat President Putin. President Zelenskiy. I’m so focused on beating Putin. We’ve got to worry about it. Anyway, Mr. President.”

Zelenskiy responded, “I’m better,” and Biden replied, “You are a hell of a lot better,” finishing his remarks.

The mistake caused a stir in the press center, with many journalists gasping and shouting “Zelenskiy” to correct Biden. Zelenskiy’s scheduled press conference was canceled at the last minute, so he didn’t have to address Biden’s gaffe.

The incident quickly spread to other press conferences with world leaders, bringing up questions about Biden’s mental state. Keir Starmer emphasized that the NATO summit had positive results welcomed by Zelenskiy, and that Biden had effectively led the discussions. French President Emmanuel Macron commented, “Slips of the tongue happen, it’s happened to me.” Scholz, when asked about Biden’s mistake, avoided the question but expressed hope that Biden would continue to support Ukraine strongly.
