Anti-terrorism court grants bail to Imran Khan in 8 cases of Judicial Complex violence

Imran Khan receives bail from ATC on 8 charges of judicial complex violence.

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan, has been granted bail in eight cases related to violence at the Judicial Complex by an anti-terrorism court. This comes as a relief to the defiant leader, who is currently facing over 100 cases following his removal from power. The bail has been granted until June 8.

The charges against Khan and several leaders of his party stem from an alleged attack on security personnel outside the Federal Judicial Complex during a court appearance. The police filed multiple cases against them, including charges of rioting, obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties, assault, theft, criminal intimidation, and other serious offenses.

Earlier on the same day, the former prime minister had travelled to Rawalpindi to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) scam, specifically the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan had chosen to appear in the anti-graft body in the twin cities after skipping a previous hearing in the corruption case out of fear of arrest. He had informed the body that he was in the provincial capital, busy seeking bail in multiple instances.

The NAB had summoned Imran Khan in relation to a case involving a £190 million settlement from the UK. In a written reply to the NAB, Khan expressed his willingness to cooperate in the probe in accordance with the directives of the top court.

In a recent interview, Khan stated that there is an 80 percent chance of his arrest in Islamabad, claiming that efforts were being made to dismantle democracy. He mentioned that he was due to appear in Islamabad for a bail hearing and expressed his concerns about being arrested.

Earlier this month, Imran Khan was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which triggered violent protests across Pakistan. Supporters of Khan resorted to rioting nationwide, and there were attacks on both civilian and military installations.

Subsequently, the Supreme Court of Pakistan instructed the NAB to release Imran Khan, and he later obtained bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

As he prepares to travel to Islamabad for his court appearance, Imran Khan remains apprehensive about the possibility of another arrest.
