Asim Jamil, the son of the well-known Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, tragically passed away in Talamba, Punjab. Maulana Tariq Jamil confirmed the sad news on a social media platform, requesting prayers for his son’s departed soul. He described the death as an “accidental” one that had cast a cloud of grief. Dr. Asif Imam from Tulamba Hospital also confirmed the unfortunate incident.
According to sources, Asim was at his gym located on a farm, with a guard standing by for security. He took the guard’s pistol and, regrettably, shot himself in the chest. The cause of death, as stated by the Punjab police spokesperson, appears to be a “gunshot.”
Mian Channu Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Saleem, reported that Asim was taken to the Talamba Rural Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead. The police also acquired CCTV footage showing Asim shooting himself in the chest, which will be sent for forensic analysis.
The Regional Police Officer (RPO), Sohail Chaudhry, mentioned that Asim had been suffering from mental illness and had been using mental health medication for an extended period. Asim was married into the Niazi family of Khanewal and had divorced his wife two years ago. He had no children and, as per sources, had not completed his matriculation or received any religious education.
This has been confirmed by Asim Jamil’s brother Yusuf Jameel that he was suffering from depression in a video message. He denied all the rumors spreading of any enemy or an attack. In his video message, he said that even in that in the time of grief he has to make a video to deny all the fake news that is spreading regarding the death of his brother.
It’s worth noting that Maulana Tariq Jamil had established Al-Hussain School in Tulamba, managed and run by Asim’s wife, who also served as the school’s principal.
Following this tragic event, the Punjab Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has initiated an inquiry and requested a report from the Multan RPO to determine the cause of death based on evidence and forensic analysis.
The passing of Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son has prompted an outpouring of condolences and support from political and influential figures.
