Over 2,800 Indian Sikhs arrive in Pakistan to attend Baisakhi festival

LAHORE: Over 2,800 Indian Sikh pilgrims crossed Wagah border to attend the annual Baisakhi Festival in Pakistan on Sunday.

The main event is set to take place at the Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hasan Abdal on April 14, with pilgrims also visiting Dera Sahib, Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board has made all necessary arrangements for the yatrees, including clean drinking water, washrooms, trains, sitting arrangements and security. The Sikh delegates expressed their happiness and gratitude to the people of Pakistan for promoting peace and brotherhood in the subcontinent. The pilgrims will return to India on April 18 after performing the religious rituals.

The annual Baisakhi festival is one of the most significant religious events for the Sikh community, which marks the Sikh New Year and the establishment of the Khalsa Panth. It is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm, and thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world flock to various shrines and gurdwaras in India and Pakistan.

The visit of these Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan is part of the ongoing efforts to promote people-to-people contact and strengthen ties between the two neighboring countries. The pilgrimage is facilitated by the governments of both India and Pakistan.
