‘There will be more political, constitutional crisis,’ Law Minister reacts to SC verdict

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazir Tarar reacted to the top court’s decision on the elections, saying that “the full court should have been called to address the problem,”.

“The decision will cause anarchy and unrest in the country,” said the law minister while talking to the reporters after the top court’s verdict on Tuesday.

He stated that the three-member bench rejected the demand of the lawyers and the bar associations.

The law minister once again appealed to the CJP to form a 13-member bench for hearing of the election matter.

Tarar said that it was being felt that the top court had been divided into two parts,” said the law minister while addressing a press conference after the Supreme Court verdict.

He said that it was against the dignity of the apex court if there was lack of unity.

The law minister said that seniors judges should be kept away from such matters, saying that some judges were ignored and were not made part of the benches.

He questioned over formation of six-member bench of the apex court on verdict of Justice Qazi Faez Isa even after the verdict on the elections.  Tarar also raised question about the decision of the three-member bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, saying that “how a three-member bench could set aside the verdict of a four-member bench,”.

He stated  that the PM and he talked about it on the floor of the assembly.

“I personally request the CJP with my both hands to call the judges of and sit together to save the top court,” said the law minister.

When asked if the government was going to conduct elections, the law minister said that he read the verdict and the ECP was an independent constitutional institution and holding elections was its responsibility.
