Punjab to Build 50-Acre Film City in Lahore to Boost Media Industry

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced plans to establish a 50-acre Film City in Lahore, aiming to revive and modernize Pakistan’s media and entertainment sector.

The project, revealed via the Punjab government’s official communication channels, will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City and is being positioned as the country’s first fully integrated, end-to-end media production hub.

According to the chief minister, the Film City will bring together film, television, animation, and digital content production under a single platform. The initiative is designed to reduce dependence on foreign facilities, particularly for visual effects (VFX) and post-production work.

The facility will include state-of-the-art studios, sound stages, and post-production labs, along with purpose-built shooting locations. Plans also feature large-scale sets and a central lake to accommodate diverse production needs.

The project will also house convention centers to host international events and award ceremonies, alongside a media trade hub. Dedicated institutions for film and music education are also part of the plan, aimed at nurturing local talent.

Maryam Nawaz said the Film City is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while supporting the growth of emerging sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital media.

She described the initiative as a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s creative economy by connecting talent, technology, and business opportunities.

The Film City will be developed in phases, with additional details about timelines and implementation expected to be announced in the coming months.
