The federal government on Wednesday announced that there will be no electricity or gas loadshedding during Sehr and Iftar timings across Pakistan in the upcoming month of Ramazan.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari and Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik assured citizens of uninterrupted utility services during key hours of fasting.
“We have decided that there will be absolutely no loadshedding in any area, unless there is a massive fault, God forbid, during the timings of Sehr and Iftar,” Leghari said.
He added that even economic loadshedding in high-loss feeder areas would be significantly limited during these critical hours to facilitate those observing fasts.
Leghari said it was the clear directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that citizens fasting during Ramazan should receive proper and timely utility services to avoid inconvenience.
Reiterating the commitment, the power minister stated that authorities would ensure “there is no suspension of electricity during these timings across Pakistan.”
To monitor the situation, a special control room has been established at the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC). The control room will oversee feeder performance nationwide to prevent disruptions.
Consumers facing electricity-related issues have been advised to contact the 118 helpline to register complaints for immediate resolution.
Meanwhile, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said that “complete arrangements” have been finalized to guarantee gas supply with maximum pressure from 3am to 10:30pm, particularly during Sehr and Iftar.
He said the decision to ensure uninterrupted gas supply was made in consultation with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
“Additional quantities have been arranged so that people are provided with as many facilities as possible,” Malik stated.
For gas-related complaints, consumers can call the 119 helpline. The minister added that situation rooms have been set up at the head offices of both SNGPL and SSGC to monitor supply and address issues promptly.
The announcement comes as millions across Pakistan prepare for Ramazan, a month marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, with Sehr and Iftar being the most critical times for household utility consumption.
