Pakistan hopes for early normalization in Iran, supports diplomatic efforts
UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has expressed hope for an early normalization of the Pakistan Iran situation, reaffirming its support for all diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring regional peace and stability during a United Nations Security Council briefing.
The remarks were made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while addressing the Security Council session on “The Situation in the Middle East.”
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Pakistan firmly believes that all disputes must be resolved through peaceful means and strictly in accordance with international law. He warned that continued hostilities, the use of force and unilateral actions would only further complicate the situation and lead to unnecessary humanitarian suffering.
He stressed that the threat or use of force would aggravate tensions and undermine both regional and international peace and stability, urging all parties to exercise restraint and act responsibly.
The Pakistani envoy said all stakeholders must remain within the bounds of international law and avoid actions that could prove detrimental to peace and security in the region and beyond. He emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue should remain the guiding principles for achieving negotiated settlements to all contentious issues, in line with the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reiterated that it will not allow its territory or airspace to be used against Iran. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, during his weekly press briefing on Thursday, reaffirmed Islamabad’s long-standing position and commitment to regional peace and stability.
The spokesperson said Pakistan is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran and continuously assessing regional developments, adding that Islamabad seeks a peaceful resolution to all Iran-related issues.
“As a neighbouring, friendly and brotherly country, Pakistan wants a peaceful solution to the situation in Iran,” Andrabi said, expressing confidence that the Iranian nation will overcome the current challenges with wisdom and resilience.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect are the only viable paths to de-escalation and lasting stability in the region.
