Pakistan and Bangladesh approve visa-free entry for Diplomats and Officials
ISLAMABAD: In a significant diplomatic development, Pakistan and Bangladesh have formally approved visa-free entry for diplomats and government officials, a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two South Asian nations. The decision, approved by the Advisory Council Committee, will allow holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries to travel without a visa.
Officials confirmed that the bilateral arrangement will remain effective for five years, providing smoother official-level engagement and encouraging high-level visits without bureaucratic delays.
Alongside the visa-free travel agreement, both sides also discussed enhancing bilateral trade and industrial development. During a meeting in Dhaka, Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan met with Bangladesh’s Adviser for Industries Adilur Rahman Khan, where they reached a consensus on promoting joint ventures, trade cooperation, and mutual investments.
The Commerce Minister emphasized Pakistan’s interest in becoming part of Bangladesh’s evolving industrial sector through collaborative projects, highlighting opportunities in cement, sugar, footwear, and leather exports. He also urged Bangladeshi traders to increase imports from Pakistan, pointing out the potential for stronger commercial ties.
Diplomatic observers note that relations between Islamabad and Dhaka have improved significantly following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. The former Bangladeshi prime minister fled to India after being overthrown, where she continues to face charges of crimes against humanity. Her departure has opened the door for a reset in Pakistan-Bangladesh ties, with both governments now working towards greater cooperation in trade, diplomacy, and regional stability.
