Russian Airstrike Hits Residential Building in Kharkiv, Ukraine

At least one person has died, and dozens more are hurt after a Russian airstrike hit a residential building in Kharkiv, Ukraine, according to officials. Among the injured are children.

Rescue teams are currently searching for and helping injured people on the building’s ninth to twelfth floors. This information comes from a statement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the messaging app Telegram. The explosions happened around 3 p.m. local time, as reported by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov. So far, at least 41 people have been injured, and 14 of them have been taken to the hospital.

Zelensky mentioned that four aerial bombs were used in this attack on the Kharkiv region. One bomb specifically targeted the residential building in Kharkiv, while the other three hit villages in the surrounding area.

Andry Yermak, who is the head of the President’s Office, shared a video showing the scene after the airstrike. He urged the international community to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to target Russian military sites, according to local news sources.

Local officials believe that there could still be bodies under the debris, and the search for survivors is ongoing. “Residents are being evacuated. Specialized, humanitarian, international, and Ukrainian organizations are responding to the scene,” said Oleh Syniehubov of the Kharkiv city military administration.

Ukrainian officials stated that the Russian attack on the residential building breaks human rights and international humanitarian law. They emphasized that there should be a response to this airstrike.
