14 Killed, 43 Injured in Israeli Airstrikes on Syrian City of Masyaf

At least 14 people were killed late on Sunday during a series of Israeli airstrikes in Masyaf, a city located in Syria’s Hama province, according to Syria’s state news agency (SANA).

Regional intelligence sources revealed that one of the targets was a major military research facility near Masyaf, believed to be involved in chemical weapons production. The facility reportedly houses Iranian military experts who help with weapons development.

Israel did not immediately comment on the airstrikes, which is typical for such incidents in Syria. Following the Hamas attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers on October 7, Israel has increased its airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias in Syria. In addition, Israeli forces have also targeted Syrian army air defenses and military units.

A military source told SANA that the strikes, which began around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, came from the direction of northwestern Lebanon and hit several military sites in central Syria. The source added that Syrian air defenses intercepted some of the missiles but did not provide further details.

According to a local health official, 43 people were injured, with several in critical condition. The strikes also caused two fires in the area, which firefighters were working to control.

This attack is one of the most significant Israeli strikes in Syria since the war in Gaza began. Earlier in April, Israeli warplanes also targeted Iran’s embassy in Syria, a strike that reportedly killed seven Iranian military advisers, including three high-ranking commanders.
