Pakistani Hero Arshad Nadeem Breaks Olympic Javelin Record with 92.97m Throw

Arshad Nadeem made history on Thursday by winning the gold medal in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics, breaking an Olympic record and ending Pakistan’s 32-year wait for a major success at the Games.

The athlete from Mian Channu had a slow start, with a foul throw on his first attempt. However, he stunned everyone with his second throw, reaching an incredible 92.97 meters, a distance that no other competitor could match for the rest of the event.

Nadeem’s main rival, Neeraj Chopra of India, who was the reigning Olympic champion, also had a foul throw on his first attempt. He eventually secured the silver medal with an 89.45-meter throw on his second attempt.

Anderson Peters from Grenada earned the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 meters, marking his first Olympic medal.

Nadeem’s throw not only secured Pakistan’s first individual gold medal and its inaugural track and field medal but also marked him as only the second South Asian to achieve a podium finish in an Olympic track and field event.

The 92.97-meter throw shattered the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters, set by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It is now the sixth longest throw in history and the best in the world this year.

The final also reignited the Pakistan-India sports rivalry, with Nadeem and Chopra often competing closely in recent years. Last year, Chopra won gold while Nadeem took silver at the World Athletics Championships.

Chopra, who came into the final as the top seed with an 89.34-meter throw, had a tough night, recording five foul throws. His sole successful throw of 89.45 meters was enough to secure the silver medal.
