Ivanka Trump, the former first daughter, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram on Saturday after her father, Donald Trump, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Thank you for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania,” wrote Ivanka, who used to be a top adviser at the White House. “I am grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions today. I continue to pray for our country.”
“I love you, Dad, today and always.”
Ivanka’s emotional message came after her brother Eric gave a statement to Page Six.
“Toughest man I have ever met,” Eric said about his father.
Shots were fired while Donald Trump was speaking at his rally on Saturday. Video footage shows the former president taking cover after being struck in the ear by a bullet.
Secret Service agents quickly surrounded Donald as he fell to the ground. He was seen with blood on the side of his face as he stood up and was escorted away.
People at the rally were evacuated as the area was declared an active crime scene.
Later, Donald Trump talked about the assassination attempt in a statement on his Truth Social page.
“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement for their rapid response to the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also the family of another person that was badly injured,” he wrote.
