In a recent update, Pakistan’s aviation ministry has decided that judges and their spouses won’t have to go through body searches at any airport in the country. This decision follows directions from the Supreme Court, and the official order was issued by the Airport Security Force (ASF) director general under the aviation secretary’s guidance.
The notification, dated October 12, mentions that the Aviation Secretary has exempted the spouses of serving judges and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan from body searches at all airports.
In another development reported on December 16, Pakistan is in discussions with a United Arab Emirates (UAE) company to set up eGates at Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports. This move aims to provide self-immigration services similar to those in developed countries.
Officials are considering installing eGates at major airports like Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Airport, and Islamabad International Airport. The goal is to streamline immigration services for passengers from developed countries, allowing them to bypass long queues. Passengers with e-passports will have the convenience of using automated self-service immigration barriers, a feature already present in airports like Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Dubai. This advancement aims to enhance the travel experience by reducing wait times for eligible passengers.
