Man suffering from starvation in Muzaffargarh calls 15 for food, Receives Help

In a heartwarming incident that highlights the power of empathy and quick response, Muzaffargarh police came to the aid of a starving family after receiving a distress call on the emergency helpline 15. Bashir Ahmed, a resident of village Sargani in tehsil Karor Lal Esan, dialed the emergency number to share the dire situation his family had been enduring for the past two days, even mentioning thoughts of suicide due to desperation.

Bashir Ahmed, who works as a daily laborer, had been grappling with prolonged unemployment, aggravated by the relentless grasp of inflation. The situation had taken a toll on him, leaving him with no means to feed his wife and four children for an agonizing 48 hours.

Upon receiving the alarming call, Layyah District Police Officer, Asadur Rehman, took swift action. He immediately reached out to Bashir, engaging in a counseling session to provide emotional support and reassurance. The following morning, DPO Asadur Rehman and his team personally visited Bashir’s residence in village Sargani. They arrived with a substantial supply of food items intended to sustain the family for the forthcoming weeks. Additionally, Bashir was presented with a sum of money to help alleviate his financial burdens.

Inspector Muhammad Idris Khan, the Station House Officer of Karor Police Station, accompanied the DPO during this compassionate mission.

Expressing his thoughts to the media, DPO Asadur Rehman shared that this incident marked the first instance where a call was received on the emergency helpline 15, bearing such a distressing plea for help. Bashir Ahmed had narrated that his children had gone without food for two days, their lives hanging by a thread due to hunger.

In a subsequent video message, DPO Asadur Rehman recounted the phone conversation with Bashir. He revealed that Bashir had confided in him about contemplating suicide as a result of overwhelming financial constraints. DPO Rehman responded with words of solace, urging Bashir to hold on and assuring him that help was on the way.

I asked him to be patient, telling him that we (police) would come to his home to help him,” the DPO stated.
