Lahore, August 16, 2023 – The Punjab Police has formally requested custody of Hassan Niazi, a lawyer and the nephew of PTI chief Imran Khan, who is wanted in connection with the May 9 Jinnah House attack in Lahore. The request was made to the Quetta Police, who currently have custody of Niazi.
Hassan Niazi was apprehended a few days ago in Abbottabad, where he was reportedly hiding at a friend’s residence. He was subsequently handed over to the Quetta police by the KPK police.
Lahore police had initiated the process to declare Niazi a proclaimed offender (PO), as he had been evading authorities along with more than 200 other individuals implicated in the case.
The incident on May 9 saw a gathering of PTI workers following the arrest of Imran Khan in Islamabad. The supporters congregated at various points across the provincial capital before converging outside the Lahore Corps Commanders House.
